Heavy Weight Army Poncho
These heavy-duty models have been nearly impossible to find for several
years now. Too bad, because they are pretty useful. This model has a
drawstring hood, tie cord at the waist, edge grommets, and 2-way side
joining snaps. Made with military specification nylon twill weave with a
heavy waterproof coating. Available, if you’re lucky, in olive drab only.
Although this model is slightly cheaper, it's also slightly heavier.
There's no reason not to get the light weight Army poncho. |

Light Weight Army Poncho
An excellent staple
for any outdoorsman is the standard Army rain poncho. It can be
used as a rain garment, sleeping bag, ground cover, lean-to shelter,
or you can snap two together for a pup tent. It features a drawstring
hood, edge grommets, and 2-way side joining snaps. Made with military
specification rip-stop nylon taffeta with a urethane waterproof
coating, which is lighter than its predecessor. It comes in woodland
camouflage only. |

Easton Aluminum Tent Stake
This tent stake is made by Mountain Hardware with
Easton® 7075-T9 aluminum. It's easy to place in and pull out of the
ground, thanks to its large head and sharpened point. There's a hole in
the head of the stake to run 550 cord through for easier removal. The
round shape doesn’t resist lateral movement as much as other designs but
the longer length gives it additional holding power. The combination
should work out just fine unless you’re pitching your tent in the sand or
snow on a windy day. The price is right and the weight is the best yet. |

Snow Peak Titanium Peg
Titanium makes this
peg both light and strong – and pricey. Strong tent stakes are
nice, but aluminum works as well. It’s not the strength of the
peg as much as the length and shape of the peg that counts. Snow
Peak is just another company that has jumped on the trendy-Titanium-train
(i.e. Ti laptop cases, Ti sporks, Ti mechanical pencils, Ti cookware
and more). Enough of the rant. The V-shape cross-section does
allow for compact storage of many pegs and helps resist moving
side to side. It also features a hole located in the center of
the peg for more secure anchoring, especially in sand or snow.
For the price it should set your tent up for you and maybe even
gather some wood. |

MSR Ground Hog Stake
This aluminum tent
stake is old-school, well-designed and very durable. The three-sided
design provides extra holding power. The notch at top is handy
for securing guylines and the attached nylon pull-cord allows
easy removal. MSR makes great cookware
and now great tent stakes too. |
