Pedialyte
It has more electrolytes than Gatorade and less sugar! It sounds
great until you read the ingredients and see that it contains
Sucrolose (otherwise sold as Splenda). This artificial sweetener
is created by chlorinating regular table sugar, which by doing so
reduces the calories. Who cares!! The stuff tastes like crap.
Pedialyte is typically used to re-hydrate little kids who suffer from vomiting or have the
runs, which is ironic since Sucrolose causes diarrhea (among other
unsavory side effects) in lab animals. Sucrolose has only been on
the market since 1976 and only on the American market since 1998,
which means nobody knows much about its long term effects so don’t
forget how excited everyone was about saccharine when it was first
introduced. Face it, the more calories the better during outdoor
adventures and the bottom line is that even if this stuff is the most effective isotonic sports drink, it still tastes
disgusting! |
